Free opportunities for individuals with lived or living experience of Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD)
AOD Peer Worker Foundation Training is designed to empower people with lived and living experience (LLE) in the AOD field to build foundational peer work skills whilst sharing their stories with confidence, safety, and impact.
This training welcomes a wide range of participants. It is well suited to community members looking to enter the AOD LLE workforce, people currently working in identified LLE roles, and those wanting to apply their experience through volunteering or community involvement. People working in allied health or other peer led roles who want to deepen their expertise in utilising AOD LLE within their practice are also very welcome.
Delivered 2 days face to face, or online.
Lived and living experience of alcohol and other drugs is an essential requirement for attendance at this training.
GROW is our Living and Lived (LLE) Community of Practice that will provide a space for LLE workers to share workplace challenges, learnings and lessons.
Once a Month
EXPAND is our webinar series, which brings leading experts from across the AOD sector to discuss issues relevant to the LLE workforce.
Every 2 Months
CONNECT is our online support network, which includes access to resources, advice and information forums and professional development opportunities, such as research, volunteer and employment opportunities.

Specialised Training
NUAA provides training and professional development opportunities to meet the needs of your organisation. Grounded in living and lived experience (LLE), our training delivers expert knowledge in alcohol and other drugs (AOD), peer work, and harm reduction.
Our trainings are designed to build workforce capability, strengthen confidence, and support best practice approaches in harm reduction and peer-based work.
Our training topics include but are not limited to:
Harm reduction foundations
Blood-borne virus education and testing
Overdose prevention and naloxone
Safer drug use and harm reduction practices
AOD peer workforce skill development
Organisational readiness for implementing and supporting a LLE workforce
Working with people who use drugs, including stigma and discrimination
Tailored programs for young people, community organisations, not-for-profits, and other specialist settings
Professional Development: Peer Supervision
NUAA can provide one-on-one and group peer supervision to LHD and NGO’s to support their LLE workforce.
Like line management supervision, Peer supervision is an essential support mechanism for lived or living experience workers. Peer supervision provides LLE workers with a peer supervisor to guide and develop the LLE workers’ professional lived experience practice and lived experience skill set.
