The NSW Users and AIDS Association (NUAA) is a governed, staffed and led by people with lived experience of drug use. NUAA works hard to provide our community with innovative harm reduction programs and services for for people who use drugs. NUAA also works hard to advocate for improved service delivery and a more rational approach to drug use in NSW.
NUAA is the peak drug user organisation in NSW has been working to improve the life of people who use drugs for over 25 years. NUAA was formed in 1989, in the face of a growing HIV epidemic, by a group of drug users, their friends, families and supporters.
NUAA was established as an independent, user-driven community-based organisation and its aims continue to this day. Funded primarily by the NSW Health Department, NUAA provides education, practical support, information and advocacy to users of illicit drugs, their friends, and allies. NUAA has often led the way in developing innovative approaches to peer education and community development, and has contributed to Australia having one of the lowest HIV rates amongst injecting drug users in the world.
